INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team looked to build off momentum after earning consecutive victories in the past week, but the No. 3 Lewis Flyers proved too much for the Greyhounds on Saturday from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds hung with the Flyers in the opening frame, leading as late as 19-18. The visitors used four kills to help earn their final seven points of the set to win, 25-22.

Lewis cruised to a second-set win before UIndy gave it a fight in the third. The Greyhounds faltered early, trailing 11-8, before securing four straight points and five of six to even the tally at 14 apiece. A kill by
Mary Grace Ertel gave UIndy a 20-19 lead, but Lewis won six of the final seven rallies to sweep the home team.

HOUND BYTES
Coach Reed: "We saw some really good things. Two of the three sets were great. I thought we showed a lot of heart and demonstrated that we belong in the conversation with a top-five progra. It took a lot of guts to get our butts kicked in the second set and then go back out and take it down to the wire."
"We're still growing and just coming up a little short. We're competing, that's what's most important. We need to learn to win against these top programs. I believe we and we will."
"We have a huge road trip coming up. it's time for us to dig deep and take pride in what we do. They keep coming in [to practice] and working their tails off. It's going to click. This road trip will be an incredible measuring stick for how good we are. I know we're ready for the challenge."
SERVING HOPE
Before the match, the UIndy volleyball program presented a check to assist Hope Center Indy. From the Hope Center's website: "Hope Center's mission is to be a Christ-centered program to help develop the personal and professional life of women who have been rescued from human trafficking in order for them to re-enter society with the confidence, health, and technical skills needed to succeed."
Coach Reed spoke of the importance of volunteering in our local community. "I want to say how proud I am of these girls for raising money, awareness, and support for the Hope Center. They took it upon themselves to serve their community and give to a place helping so many people. It's really powerful. Words do not describe how proud of them I am."
ROAD TRIPPIN'
UIndy drops to 6-6 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC action. The Greyhounds will hit the road for four straight matches away from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center, starting on Tuesday in Kenosha, Wis. to battle Wisconsin-Parkside.Â
