QUINCY, Ill. – The UIndy volleyball team won its second straight match on Friday evening as it sent down GLVC rival Quincy in four sets. The win improves the Greyhounds to 8-6 on the regular season and 3-2 in conference tilts.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy grew leads of 14-6 and 19-10 before fending off Quincy in the first set. A kill by
Julia Kruzan gave the Greyhounds match point before the UIndy defense forced a Quincy attack error to end the frame.
Â
The Greyhounds jumped out to 15-8 lead in the second set, thanks in part to kills by
Rachel Irbe. The Hawks clawed back to tie it at 23 apiece, but Kruzan followed
Katie Voelz's third kill of the set to take the deuce lead.
Â
After dropping the third set, UIndy went on a 16-8 run to grow a 20-12 lead in the fourth game. The Greyhounds capitalized on a slew of errors by the Hawks to win the deciding frame, 25-19.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach
Jason Reed: "Rachel had a nice night on both sides of the ball. Quincy really went after her in serve receive and tried to put  a lot on her plate. She rose to the challenge and made a lot of incredible plays that were a big reason for the win tonight."
"Julia, Katie and Anna had really nice nights for us. They attacked very efficiently and didn't make too many mistakes. They took aggressive swings and scored some important points for us at crucial times. Â Katie saw the court really well and used a variety of shots to score."
"We did a great job of controlling most of the match. We need to keep our focus as we build a lead, but I like the way we came out and started the sets we won. I think we can take a lot of good things from that. I'd still like to see us cut down on some mental mistakes. We're missing too many serves. We can improve on that. However, were finding ways to win and good teams are going to find ways to win."
"We played great defense tonight. Frankly, Quincy did as well. We really had to earn our points. With quite a few long rally's, it was hard to score at times. In the end we had a little more fire power and we made less mistakes."
"Winning on the road in the GLVC is no easy task. I'm proud of our effort and glad we came away with the win. We're looking forward to getting better tomorrow and stepping up to our next challenge against Maryville."

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Greyhounds have won their first two contests of the four-match road trip. The team will head to St. Louis, Mo. tomorrow for an afternoon GLVC showdown against the Maryville Saints at 4 p.m. ET.
