Steinwascher nets two goals, Jenkins tallies another in win over Drury

INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off an exciting 2-1 win at Rockhurst last Sunday, the UIndy men's soccer team flipped the page to a new week. They kicked off their weekend with a game against Drury before hosting Missouri S&T this Sunday. While the John Higgins told his team to expect a physical game from Drury despite their 2-9-3, the conditions proved to also be a tough test for UIndy as the rain came down steadily throughout the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy has been very good about not getting off to a slow start this season, they kept that trend rolling tonight. Javier Steinwascher fired off two shots on goal within the first five minutes of the game, nearly putting the ball in the back of the net early. Both of Steinwascher's shots were saved by the Panthers goalkeeper, but that did not keep the ball off the UIndy side of the field long. Drury did manage to get the ball away from UIndy on a break and capitalized on a breakdown by the Greyhound defense in the 16th minute. UIndy did not trail for long though. Alejandro Steinwascher connected on his sixth goal of the season to knot the game at one. Steinwascher had a chance to push the lead to 2-1 but his shot in the 36th minute just barely hit the cross bar and cleared by the Panther defense. With the first half winding down, Sunday's hero James Jenkins came into the game. Jenkins was not in the game long before he scored his fourth goal of the season to send the Hounds into half with a 2-1 lead.

UIndy was not going to be content and just play keep away in the second half. Alejandro Steinwascher took matters into his own hands in the 49th minute. Steinwascher beat three defenders, crossing up two of them, and shot with his left foot to get it just past the Drury goalkeeper to push the Greyhound lead to 3-1 with just over 40 minutes to go in the game. UIndy flirted with some goals late, sending several shots wide and high. Felix Overmann had three headers in the second half alone miss the goal, while Ewan Lynch also had a pair of shots miss target as well. UIndy held on and handed the Panthers their second-straight loss, their seventh in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy held Drury to two shots on goal, their only two for the game. It is the second time the season that they have held their opponent to only two shots for an entire game.
-The Greyhounds 20 shots tonight was the third time this season they have hit the 20 shot mark in a game.
-Alejandro Steinwascher joins James Jenkins and Josh Mahon as the only UIndy players to have multi-goal games this season.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on the Greyhound win, "I thought we were excellent tonight, probably as good as we have looked this season. I thought we moved the ball exceptionally well in the first half, we created loads of chances. The thing most pleasing more than anything else is our energy level, we look as sharp as we have all season, which is the goal for us to be peaking this time of the season. I am excited about us, we are going in the right direction, and we are exactly where we want to be at this point in the season both tactically and physically."

Coach Higgins on alumni returning to campus for alumni night, "a big thank you to our alums. Those guys came out here in really tough conditions and supported the group. Those guys have made a big impact on where our program is today and it is a credit to them to be in the position we are in right now as a program. So I want to give a big shout out all of our alumni."
