WHEELING, W. Va. – Looking for its second win over a ranked opponent in as many matches, the UIndy volleyball team (11-6) fell in straight sets at No. 20 Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals earned the first few points of the opening set before pulling away to win, 25-15.
Katie Furlong tallied four kills in the frame, while
Julia Kruzan had two of her nine in the set.
UIndy led most of the second set before Wheeling grabbed the 20-18 advantage. After three straight points by the Greyhounds, the Cardinals bounced back for the 2-0 lead. Sophomore libero
Olivia Martin picked up six of her team-high 15 digs on the night.
Wheeling Jesuit cruised to the third-set victory, 25-14.
Alyssa Spears finished with 25 assists on the team's 31 kills.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kruzan finished the evening at .250 hitting, leading the team in the category among Hounds with at least two kills.
Katie Furlong nearly recorded a double-double with a team-best 13 kills and nine digs. The sophomore has tallied double-figure kills in each of the team's 17 matches this season.
The Greyhounds blocked six Cardinal attacks on Wednesday, with
Alyssa Spears and
Katie Voelz each stopping two.

UIndy will get back to conference action this coming weekend when its battles Bellarmine and Southern Indiana on the road. The match on Friday is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
