McKeller, Clinton highlight All-GLVC list

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its year-end football awards Thursday, with Greyhounds garnering a number of accolades. In addition to UIndy's 20 All-GLVC nods, sophomore running back Al McKeller was voted the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches, while fellow-running back and return man Toriano Clinton was dubbed the Freshman of the Year.

McKeller became the fifth Greyhound in seven years to be named the conference's top offensive threat, joining the likes of Jake Purichia (2017), Reece Horn (2014), Klay Fiechter (2013) and Mar'Quone Edmonds (2012).

A graduate of local Lawrence North High School, McKeller topped the league with 1,093 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He was twice named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week this year on the way to becoming just the fourth-ever Greyhound with back-to-back 1,000-yard-rushing seasons.

Meanwhile, Clinton was dubbed the GLVC's top freshman one year after McKeller garnered the same honor. The Calumet, Ill., native currently leads all of Division II in kickoff return average (41.6 ypr) and is only one of three DII players with three kick return TDs on the season.

Also an All-GLVC Second Team honoree at running back, Clinton has racked up 763 rushing yards on the season, averaging 8.0 yards per carry, while scoring 13 total TDs.

McKeller was the lone Greyhound to earn unanimous support as an All-GLVC First Team selection. Ten other Greyhounds were named to the first team, including offensive linemen Clay Hadley and Dan McHale, wide receiver Malik Higgins, tight end/h-back Joseph Sarabia, d-linemen Lucas Rice and Jacob Schmatz, linebackers Cole Sigmund and Joe Lambright, and defensive backs Robert Williams and Blake Luker.

Hadley, Higgins, McKeller, Rice, Schmatz and Sigmund each picked up their second all-conference first team recognition.

Other UIndy award winners included second teamers Tarnjeet Singh (OL), Mitch Rougraff (OL), Erik Hart (DL) and Rondell Weathers (DL); as well as All-GLVC Honorable Mention honorees Skylar Lacy (OL), Alex Parsons (LB), Jake Purichia (QB) and Aaron Matio (WR).
