Greyhounds stumble in road loss to Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The UIndy volleyball team (18-11, 11-6 GLVC) stumbled on Friday night at Truman (21-9, 10-7 GLVC), dropping the league match in four sets. The Hounds opened the contest with a 26-24 win in the first set, but failed to maintain momentum against the Bulldogs.

UIndy is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Midwest regional rankings that were released on Wednesday.3

HOW IT HAPPENED
Katie Furlong produced a match-best 21 kills in the loss, attacking at a .291 clip. The Hounds were unable to muster any offense around the sophomore, as the team hit just .130 against the Bulldogs.

The defense appeared to be sound on Friday, scooping up 93 Truman attacks, led by Olivia Martin's match-high 29 digs. However, the Bulldogs recorded six solo blocks and eight assisted stops to squander the Greyhound offense.

A kill from Taylor Jacquay late in the fourth set put the Hounds down four, but Truman earned the final tallies of the frame end the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Martin is now second in program history with 618 digs this season as a sophomore. The Fort Wayne native is 119 from matching Kyleigh Turner's single-season record of 737, which she did as a second-year player in 2007.

Furlong also continues to move up the record book, as the outside hitter is just 26 kills from tying the sophomore record of 503 in a season. Her 21 kills on Friday marks the eighth time this season that Furlong has record at least 20 terminations.

Jena Davis picked up 16 digs against Truman, the third time this season the junior has done so. In each of those matches, the Cedar Hills, Mo. native also recorded a service ace.

Jacquay nearly had another double-double on Friday, recording nine kills and a career-best 14 digs. The sophomore had previously recorded 13 digs on three occasions, and as recently as September 29 against Lewis.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Jason Reed: "We didn't have our best night. We came out strong and showed some toughness in the first set, but Truman adjusted after and dug and block everything we shot at them.

"We talked about how we've earned our opponents' respect and with that comes everyone's best game. I think we saw that from Truman tonight and we will expect to see it against Quincy tomorrow. It's a great opportunity to get back on track."

UP NEXT
UIndy closes out the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Quincy scheduled for 4 p.m. The final GLVC standings are still to be determined.
