INDIANAPOLIS- Members of the UIndy men's and women's basketball teams, along with Head Coaches
Stan Gouard and
Kristin Wodrich visited nearby Longfellow Middle School Friday, talking with the school's eighth graders about the importance of getting good grades and life outside of sport.
"I love seeing the excitement on the kids' faces when they see us walk in," men's basketball's
Miles Wayer said. "There is nothing better than being a positive and strong role model for these kids to look up to and tell them that they can do the same things if they work hard too."
The Greyhound student-athletes and coaches answered questions from the school's athletic director about their daily lives, the importance of making sure they keep their grades up and good study habits. UIndy's student-athletes then had a bit of fun with the kids, hosting a three-point shootout between women's basketball's
Mickey Sasson and men's basketball's
Marcus Latham. The coaches and student-athletes then had one-on-one and small group opportunities to talk to the eighth graders and answer their questions.
Both UIndy teams head north this evening, with GLVC contests at Lewis on tap for tomorrow. The women tip versus the Flyers at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at Lewis at 4 p.m.
