ROLLA, Mo. – The UIndy women's basketball team (8-17, 5-10 GLVC) picked up a welcomed road win Thursday night, downing host Missouri S&T, 72-65. The Greyhounds got off to a hot start and didn't look back, leading wire-to-wire for the first time this season. Sophomore
Claire Carlton notched her first career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while senior
Martha Burse led all players with 23 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking to shake off a three-game skid, the Hounds scored 14 of the game's first 16 points to quickly forge a double-digit lead. The Lady Miners (8-15, 3-12) got a bucket on their very first possession but did not hit another field goal for the next seven minutes of play. UIndy used the 3-ball to help build the margin, with
Devin Ferguson, Burse,
Tina Negoescu and Carlton all knocking down long jumpers in the early going.
Â
UIndy's 16-point halftime lead ballooned to 21 midway through the third, but the Miners came storming back with a 13-0 run. They would not get closer than seven, however, as the Hounds hit 6 of 8 shots from the line in the final minute to ice it.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on her team's success from behind the arc…
"It's huge for us to shoot that well, and to go on the road and do that is really hard in this conference; we play in a great conference. So for them to be able to come up and hit those shots is huge, and it's a testament to our kids because there was a lot of extra passes tonight. When you do that, you get good shots, and they did that tonight."
Â
Coach Wodrich on the Greyhounds' rebounding advantage…
"It's huge. It's gives us second-chance points. The first half, I didn't think we hit the offensive boards very well but we did in the second, so I was really proud of them to be able to step up in the second half and secure a lot of those rebounds."
