HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UIndy softball team (2-0) kicked off its 2018 campaign with a pair of wins at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout Thursday. The Greyhounds earned a dramatic region win in the opener, followed by a lopsided victory versus Tuskegee in game two.

UIndy 2, Trevecca Nazerene 1
Despite not leading until the final at bat, the Hounds earned the win against the in-region Trojans with a walk-off single by senior
Jessie Noone. Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, freshman
Haylie Foster earned a leadoff walk to start the rally. A
Taylor Podschweit sac bunt and an error put runners on first and second, another throwing error plated Foster, and Noone followed with the game winner.
Â
Overall, the season opener proved to be a classic pitchers' duel. UIndy's sophomore ace
Lauren Honkomp (1-0) walked five but allowed just four hits – all singles – to earn the win. Trevecca's lone run came on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Â
Meanwhile, Trojan starter Morgan Powell (0-1) had a perfect game going through fifth frames and a no-hitter working until Noone's fatal knock.
Â
Head Coach
Melissa Frost's lineup featured four freshmen:
Brooke Montgomery, Foster,
Gianni Iannantone and
Sydnie Foster.
Â
UIndy 14, Tuskegee 1 (5 inn.)
The night cap lacked the drama of the opener, as the Greyhounds coasted to a 14-2 five-inning rout versus Tuskegee (0-7). UIndy piled on with 10 runs in the third inning to all but seal the deal. The Hounds racked up six hits and four walks in the frame, including a three-run triple by Podschweit.
Â
Freshman
Halie Waters (1-0) took the ball for her first start as a Greyhound. The Boonville, Ind., product tossed three scoreless frames, striking out three and surrendering two walks. Junior-transfer
Katelyn Fisher pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs – one earned – in her Greyhound debut.
Â
Sophomore
Cathy Skaggs went 2-for-2 with a pair of ribbies, while freshmen
Hanna Burris and Iannantone scored two runs apiece.
Â
SIDE NOTE
The entire 20-team tournament was moved up one day due to weather concerns this weekend.
