PALM DESERT, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked UIndy women's golf team kicked off its spring schedule with a comeback win at the 36-hole Augustana Spring Fling Friday. Led by three all-tournament performers, the Greyhounds overcame a five-stroke deficit in the final round to win their sixth team title in as many events this year. The tournament was held at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Hounds leapfrogged from third to first with a stellar team score of 295 in the second and final round. The entire UIndy lineup shot two-over or better Friday, including a one-over 73 by senior
Kylie Raines. Five of the field's 12 teams were ranked in the top 20 in Division II by Golfstat.
Senior
Paxton DeHaven (76-74) led the way with a two-round score of +6, good for runner-up in the 72-woman field. The Seymour, Ind., native finished just two strokes back of medalist Jaime Jacob of Cal State-San Marcos.
Sophomore
Pilar Echeverria (77-74) and junior
Katharina Keilich (77-74) settled one back of DeHaven at +7, sharing third place. All three garnered all-tournament honors.
Senior
Annika Haynes (81-74) also placed in the top 10, taking ninth place at +11. Raines (86-73) tied for 14th.
Freshman
Anna Kramer (81-78) also shared 14th place, leading all individual competitors at +15. Junior
Kennedy Holtsclaw (83-80) tied for 26th place, and senior
Karli LaGrotte (86-86) tied for 43rd.
The Greyhounds next head to South Florida for the Barry Women's Invitational in Miami Lakes, Fla., March 26-27.
