INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's lacrosse team (4-4) faced its third ranked opponent of the season Wednesday, hosting No. 12 Lake Erie College in what finished as a 13-4 win for the visiting team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Facing Division II's top scoring team, the Hounds found themselves down early. The Storm held UIndy scoreless for the first quarter and went on to score the game's first eight goals.
After managing just one goal on six shots in the first half, the UIndy offense generated more opportunities after intermission. The Greyhounds would score consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to creep within six but would get no closer.
Both
Parker Kump and
Sam Horning finished with two goals apiece to lead the Hounds offensively.
Max Gerhardt,
Parker Johnson and
Matt Schoeneck each had an assist.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Storm out-shot the Hounds 46-30 for the game despite UIndy tallying six more shots than them in the second half.
- Senior
Dominic Guarino was credited with 10 face-off wins in 12 attempts.
- Five Greyhounds amassed three ground balls, including Gerhardt, who added two caused turnovers.
- LEC senior Lucas Shafer scored a game-high seven goals after coming into the game ranked 12th in DII in scoring average.
- Lake Erie's previous contest ended with a 7-6 win versus then-sixth-ranked Mercyhurst.
- Head Coach Greg Stock's spent five seasons at Lake Erie before coming to UIndy to start the men's lacrosse program in 2016. He was a two-time ECAC Coach of the Year at LEC, guiding the Storm to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013 and a conference title a season later.
