HAMMOND, Ind. - The UIndy baseball team (24-17) concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to in-region Purdue Northwest (17-18) for a matinee twin bill. The Greyhounds, who split with the Pride in the Circle City a week ago, dropped each game while only pushing across two runs.Â
PNW 6, UIndy 3
The Pride scored three runs in the second inning after working a pair of walks and singling off Greyhound southpaw
Brian Wichman, who was relieved by
Christian Beard after the starter got two outs. Beard issued a free pass ahead of a knock by the PNW lead-off man to allow the inherited runners to score. The Pride pushed across another three runs in the third - all unearned - as each of the first five hitters reached base.Â
UIndy scored its lone run of the game in the fifth inning when
Kyle Orloff was hit by pitch that forced
Tyler Phillips to score. Beard faced the minimum his final four innings of work, striking out four.Â
Storm Joop and
Macy Holdsworth recorded the only two hits for the Hounds.Â
PNW 3, UIndy 1
The Greyhounds had 10 hits in the nightcap, but only scraped one run across in the seventh inning.Â
John Hendry, who tossed a complete-game shutout last Thursday against Lake Erie, allowed five hits and two earned runs in his 3.1 innings, both scores coming in the first inning off the righty. The Hounds had a hit in each inning except the first, but scored just once when a throwing error after a
Will Smithey single scored
Trey Smith in the final frame.Â
Nick Lonergan struck out one in his two-out relief appeance.Â
