SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The UIndy baseball team (17-10, 3-7 GLVC) ran into a red-hot Illinois Springfield (24-4, 5-0 GLVC) team on Saturday afternoon, dropping both games the series-opening doubleheader to the No. 10 Prairie Stars. The Hounds led 4-0 early in the first game before the Prairie Star offense put a few crooked numbers on the scoreboard to run away with the win. Illinois Springfield handled UIndy in the nightcap, running away with the 9-0 victory.Â

Storm Joop and
Macy Holdsworth led off the game reaching base, before coming around to score on a double by
Dylan Jones, who continued to rake on Saturday.
Nick Miller and
Hunter Waning each drove in a run in the third inning to increase the Greyhound lead to 4-0 early on.Â
Jake Sprinkle faced one over the minimum through three innings, striking out four and inducing one double play. Illinois Springfield tied the game in the fourth with four runs, which began with a lead-off triple, bean ball, and three-run homer. The Prairie Stars scored five more runs over the next two innings to lead 9-4, chasing Sprinkle from the mound.Â
Jones scored on a grounder by
Tyler Phillips in the seventh, but the Prairie Stars scored two more in the eighth and sealed the 11-5 victory.Â

The hosts began game two where they left off the series opener, scoring a pair in first inning off Greyhound starter
Dylan Stutsman, whom the Prairie Stars knocked around for seven in four innings.Â
Christian Beard finished with an inning of work and a strikeout, while
Cole Humphrey punched out one and issued a free pass with the two batters he faced. Waning led the offense with a pair of knocks, while
Joe Kenney and
Devon Hensley also had a hit.Â
The Hounds and Prairie Stars wrap up the four-game set tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. from UIS Baseball Field.Â
