Hounds wrap up series at Illinois Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The UIndy baseball team (17-12, 3-9 GLVC) wrapped up its conference series at Illinois Springfield on Sunday, dropping both game of the doubleheader to the Prairie Stars.

UIS 6, UIndy 1
Just like Saturday, the Greyhounds grabbed the first run of the day when Brendan Dudas singled home Nick Miller in the top of the fourth. After being sent down in order for three innings, the Prairie Stars tagged Greyhound southpaw Tyler Hosto with two runs on four straight hits to chase the starter. Jon Crawford entered in relief and surrendered four runs to score, although three of those were unearned due to the inning-opening error.

Dudas and Hensley reached base with one out in the seventh to threaten for the Hounds, but Illinois Springfield reliever Alec Altmyer induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Conor White. Dudas had two of the team's four hits.

UIS 10, UIndy 5
The Prairie Stars kept the bats hot in the night cap, scoring four runs off UIndy starter Michael Schalasky, forcing the Greyhounds to go to the bullpen early. Illinois Springfield added four more tallies in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead.

Joe Kenney and Dudas each drove in a run in the eighth to put the Hounds on the scoreboard, but the Prairie Stars added the runs back in their half of the frame to maintain the eight-run lead. Miller drilled a three-run homer in the ninth with two outs, making the final score 10-5.

Smithey had two hits for the Hounds, while Hunter Waning walked three times.

The Greyhounds will travel to Ohio Dominican for a twin bill on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
