Men's Soccer takes down Panthers in rain-shortened match

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The UIndy men's soccer team hit the road Saturday for an early season road match against the Ohio Dominican Tigers. The 25th-ranked Hounds took down the Panthers on their home turf 3-0 in today's rain shortened game. The Saturday matinee is was the second of four non-conference games the Greyhounds will play this season, outscoring the opposition seven-nil thus far.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers challenged the Greyhound backfield early, putting Greyhound goalkeeper Miles Palmer to work early. UIndy fought hard to get the ball back on the other side of the field until the 25th minute when freshman Alejandro Steinwascher took advantage of a Panther and found the back of the net to give UIndy the early advantage. It was only a matter of minutes until UIndy lit up the scoreboard again. Junior Ben Rohder picked off a pass from the ODU goalkeeper on his way to the goal to give UIndy the 2-nil lead right before the end of the half.

Similar to Thursday night's game, it did not take long in the second half before the Greyhound added another goal to the game. Senior Benjamin Sierra logged his first goal of the new season in the 53rd minute. The Chilean forward scored the unassisted goal after a costly Panther turnover in the box, making it the final scoring play of the game before being called in the 77th minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Alejandro Steinwascher is the first freshman since James Jenkins in 2016 to have two goals in his first two collegiate games
-Thursday night and Sunday afternoon's clean sheets by Miles Palmer is the third time in his career he's posted back-to-back clean sheets
-Back-to-back shutouts to begin the year is the first time since at least 2005 UIndy has not allowed a goal in their first two games

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on today's game and improvements he saw from his team from Thursday night to today, "I was delighted to come on the road and get a result. The conditions were very tough today and Ohio Dominican is really difficult to play against so credit to our guys. We showed really good depth today because we came in to the game today with a few injuries to key players. Our performance can be better but that is standard for this time in the season. We will improve as we continue to play games."
