Steinwascher's OT header gives UIndy win over Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Coming off a scoreless weekend, the UIndy men's soccer was back in action Friday night when they traveled to Lewis to face the Flyers in a Friday night bout. The Flyers were looking for their first conference win while the Hounds were looking to get back to their winning ways. Much like Sunday's game for the Hounds, additional time was needed before a winner was decided.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams came out aggressive on the offensive end, Lewis fired the game's first shot in just the third minute, but, was unable to get past Miles Palmer who was back in goal for the Hounds. UIndy then went on a roll of firing off three shots, all quality looks but unable to connect on any of the three attempts. Both teams stepped up on the defensive end, not allowing either to get off a shot until the 31st minute. Benjamin Sierra gave UIndy the 1-0 lead after taking a shot from the Javier Steinwascher-Brett Langley feed. UIndy had another good look just a couple minutes later, but Ben Rohder's header was saved, UIndy still went into half with a 1-nil lead.

UIndy tried to add onto their lead early in the second half, but Rohder had another shot saved by the Lewis goalkeeper. Nearing the halfway mark of the second half, Lewis got a header past the UIndy defense to tie the game at 1-1. Rest of the game was very competitive on the defensive end, UIndy got off the game's final shot on goal in the 87th minute but was saved. UIndy kept the ball on their side of the field throughout the first OT period, missing on a couple close chances. In the 96th minute, Alejandro Steinwascher sealed the game. The freshman took a cross from his brother and headed it into the back of the net to give the Greyhounds the 2-1 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-For the fourth consecutive season, UIndy has won at least two overtime wins in conference play
-Lewis' four shots on goal is more than UIndy has allowed combined in every GLVC game so far this season.
-Four shots on goal by the Flyers is the most allowed in a game since facing Illinois-Springfield in the NCAA tournament last season.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on Friday night's overtime win, "our first half performance was fantastic. Credit to Lewis for putting us under pressure in the second half. Our boys stuck together and thankfully we had enough quality to get the win in the end. Overall, a great team win for us where lots of players contributed."
