INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's soccer team returned home for a Sunday afternoon game against the visiting Quincy Hawks. The Hawks were looking to bounce back after a loss Friday night at Bellarmine, while the Hounds were looking to start a new winning streak after winning at Lewis their last time out. Fortunately for UIndy, they were able to tack on to their winning streak, pushing it to two straight at the Hawks expense.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Things got off to a slow start for both teams, but, picked up faster for the Hawks. Quincy scored the game's first goal in just the game's 10th minute. The Hawks goal put UIndy in unfamiliar territory, being down. After trailing for just the second time all season, UIndy had a little more time to respond compared to the first time they trailed this year when Illinois-Springfield scored before the Hounds with just under eight minutes to play. UIndy used the time remaining to their advantage.
Miles Palmer made a pair of saves just minutes after letting a ball get past him in goal. UIndy then got the ball on their side of the field and after some chances, put a ball in back of the net to tie the game. In the 22nd minute,
Josh Mahon found the ball after deflecting off
Javier Steinwascher off the feed to
Jakub Olczyk and sent the shot past the Quincy goalkeeper in the back-right corner to knot the game up at one.

Just moments after scoring, Mahon had a chance to get his second goal of the game but sent a header over the cross bar.
Callum Walsh also had a chance to push the UIndy lead to 2-1 but his shot also went sailing over the goal. UIndy was able to keep the ball on their side of the field and eventually got back into scoring position when
Jack Berger connected on his first goal of the season of a pass from
Ian Vicars to give the Greyhounds the 2-1 lead with less than a minute to go in the half. UIndy turned up the pressure in the second half, not allowing the Hawks to get a shot on target. The Hounds a couple chances in the second to extend their lead but their defensive efforts were enough to seal the win for UIndy.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy had a shot on goal percentage greater than .500 for the fourth time this season, their first in GLVC play.
-Sunday's game was only the second game in GLVC play that goalkeeper
Miles Palmer had to make more than two saves.
-For the second-consecutive season, UIndy has at least four conference wins in the first six games of conference play. It is the first time since 2010-11 they have posted back-to-back seasons with such success.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on his team's performance and looking at next weekend's games, "delighted to get the win, at this time of the season it is all about getting wins. I thought there in the first half we responded well after getting behind. We have not really been behind this season so to see the response from the guys was really pleasing. I thought we finished the first half really well. In the second half, credit to Quincy they did what a lot of teams have been doing to us. They have been banging longer balls, putting us under pressure, and we are doing a great job of matching it. We got out with a great win, you have got to get wins in this time of the year with October coming up. I still think we can still get better as a group and we will get a real test next weekend going into Maryville and USI with both of them being ahead of us in the standings, we will really find out a lot about ourselves next weekend."

UP NEXT
