GRAND LAKES, Colo. – After receiving a bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional in just its third season, the UIndy women's lacrosse team will enter the 2019 campaign ranked No. 12, according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Â
The preseason mark is the sixth straight week the Greyhounds have been 12th in the coaches' poll. The Crimson and Grey were selected as a preseason top-10 squad by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine just two weeks ago.
Â
UIndy returns a host of players from its record-setting season a year ago, including the program's first All-America recipient
Riley McClure. The Ancaster, Ontario native scooped up 46 ground balls and caused 43 turnovers during the Hounds' 16-4 season, topping both single-season categories.
Â
Prior to her All-America honor, McClure was named the GLIAC Defender of the Year, as well as earning First-Team All-GLIAC and First-Team All-Midwest accolades.
Â
All-Region honorees
Delaney Davidson,
Lauryn Hardoy, and
Abigail Lagos are also back this season. The 2019 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, Hardoy recorded 90 points in 19 contests, scoring 57 goals and handing out 33 assists.
Â
Other returning All-GLIAC performers include
Cara Brown,
Grace Gunneson,
Peyton Romig, and
Darby Smith. A native of Rockford, Mich., Gunneson has been selected to the All-GLIAC squad each of her first two seasons, while Romig secured 152 draw controls during her freshman campaign, which already tops the career top 10.
Â
Head coach
James Delaney returns for his second season at the helm, and third season overall as part of the program. A former three-time All-America player for Seton Hill, Delaney was named the IWLCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2018.
Â
UIndy will play five games this season against preseason IWLCA ranked teams, including No. 1 Le Moyne, No. 17 Grand Valley State, No. 24 Lake Erie, and No. 25 McKendree (twice).
Â
The Greyhounds open the regular season at Key Stadium on February 16 against Findlay. UIndy played the Oilers twice in 2016 and 2017, totaling a 3-1 record.
