Postseason honors continue to roll in for UIndy football

BROOKFIELD, Ill. – The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Three Teams this week, with four Greyhounds appearing on the list. UIndy student-athletes Al McKeller, Dan McHale, Robert Williams and Malik Higgins were honored on various teams, with McKeller earning first-team accolades.

McKeller picked up his second all-region nod after leading the GLVC with 1,300 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. A graduate of local Lawrence North High School, McKeller was voted the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches and ranked second in the region in rushing yards per game (108.3). He also recently garnered All-America Honorable Mention from D2Football.com.

Opening holes for McKeller was all-region second team honoree Dan McHale. The Cincinnati, Ohio product started all 12 games at center, leading a unit that ranked second in the nation in fewest sacks allowed, third in third-down conversion rate, eighth in passing efficiency and 18th in rushing offense.

Veteran defensive back and Indy native Robert Williams also earned second-team honors. The senior corner ranked second in the GLVC in passes defended and third in interceptions. His top highlight came at the end of UIndy's first-round playoff game, as his 22-yard pick-six sealed the win versus No. 19 Fort Hays State.

Senior receiver Malik Higgins also earned recognition from the Don Hansen Football Committee, as the Evansville, Ind., product earned third team all-region honors. The three-time all-conference performer finished his career ranked second in the UIndy all-time annals in receiving yards and third in both receptions and receiving TDs.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 in 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.

The first-team and second-team all-region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be selected.
