Greyhounds Fall to UIS in Double Overtime

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The UIndy women's soccer team finished their weekend road trip Sunday afternoon, taking on the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield. The two teams needed overtime to decide today's winner, with UIS able to break through in the 2nd overtime period to hand the Hounds their 2nd straight loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half saw both teams fire off multiple shots on goal, coming up empty on their attempts in the end. Kaylee Zimbelmann and Amanda Meyer each put a shot on frame early on to test the Springfield keeper. Junior Laura Shake was back between the pipes for UIndy Sunday afternoon, picking up three saves before heading to the locker room tied at 0-0.

The second half got started off much faster than the first as Maria Herrero kept up the stellar start to her freshman campaign. The freshman from Spain netted her fourth goal of the season in the 57th minute after Meredith Magee set her up perfectly to take advantage of the Prairie Star defense to go up 1-0. Things were going well for UIndy after taking the lead, holding strong on defense until the 82nd minute when UIS found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the closing minutes.

Neither team was able to score late in regulation sending the game to overtime. The Greyhounds had the lone shot in the overtime period, but Taylor Peck sent her shot wide of the goal. In the second overtime period, Springfield had one shot early on, but did not find the goal. The Prairie Stars kept the ball on their side of the field, find the gap in the Greyhound defense in the 103rd minute, taking down the Hounds 2-1.
