INDIANAPOLIS – Riding a five-game winning streak, the UIndy men's soccer team returned home Friday night for their first of four-straight games in the confines of Key Stadium. It took more than 90 minutes, but the Hounds were able to take down the Miners, in 2-1 after
Javier Steinwascher nailed a PK in the 95th minute.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drew Mueller made his first collegiate start in goal against the Miners. Mueller was tested early by S&T as the Miners got past the Indianapolis native in the 9th minute to put S&T up 1-0 early. The Greyhound offense came back with points shortly after the Miners took the lead as
Javier Steinwascher found his brother Alejandro off a UIndy corner kick as the Sterling Heights duo tied the game at 1-1.
Â
Coming out of halftime, UIndy pushed the tempo and was able to pressure the Miner defense and test their keeper.
Javier Steinwascher and
Kendall Allen had a few good looks for the Greyhounds during the second half but the clock hit zero and we went to overtime. UIndy worked on getting set in their offense in the overtime period, the Hounds got the ball in the box, drawing a foul on S&T and setting up a PK opportunity.
Javier Steinwascher stepped up, ignored some chirping from the S&T keeper, sending a shot right past him to give UIndy the 2-1 win at Key Stadium.
