INDIANAPOLIS – Riding a six-game winning streak, the UIndy men's soccer team welcomed No. 24 Maryville to Key Stadium Sunday afternoon. In a bout of two of the GLVC's best teams, the Hounds fell to the Saints, 1-0.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Being ranked as high as No. 2 this year, the Saints showed that they would be UIndy's toughest test in a while, if not all season. Maryville's defense near their goal kept UIndy from getting shots on goal that they are typically accustomed to. The Greyhounds did not get a shot on frame in the first half while the Saints turned a free kick into a goal sneaking just over
Drew Mueller, taking their 1-0 lead into half.
Â
Maryville and UIndy kept the defense pressure on one another throughout the second half. The Greyhounds were able to swing some momentum halfway through the half, there was a sense UIndy was about to break through to tie the game.
Kendall Allen and
Bryan Moreira were finally able to get their shots past the Saints defenders, but not past their keeper. UIndy would come close in the last minute, but came up empty as their six-game winning streak was ended by the No. 24 Saints.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
