INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team (16-6, 7-2 GLVC) flipped the script on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the visiting McKendree Bearcats (11-12, 4-5 GLVC) on the heels of a season-best .442 hitting percentage.
Â
Taylor Jacquay paced the Greyhounds with 14 kills, while
Katie Furlong chipped in 13 putaways at a .545 attacking clip. Defensively, UIndy scooped up 51 percent of possible McKendree attacks, while recording seven blocks.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Like on Friday night, the Greyhounds dominated the opening set, hitting .615 as a team with zero errors to win, 25-11. Furlong posted a set-best five kills, while
MaKenna Barnhart recorded four digs.
Â
The McKendree attack picked up in the second, but not quite enough to even the match. Five more kills from Furlong and Jacquay led the offense, however it was
Elizabeth Eads and
Emma Jones that finished off a run that saw UIndy earn six of the final seven points.
Â
The Greyhounds tallied four of their seven blocks in the third frame, with freshman middle
Kyra Simmons in on three herself. When a Bearcat swung it by Greyhound hands, Barnhart recorded six digs to lead a back line that picked up half of the possible attacks. UIndy rattled off five of the final six points in the set to finish the sweep, with Furlong and Jacquay each scoring a kill.
