Greyhounds Drop First GLVC Road Match at Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – It was a tough night for the UIndy volleyball team (10-3, 2-1 GLVC) on Friday evening, as the Greyhounds fell to Truman (7-8, 1-2 GLVC) in the Bulldogs' home opener.

Katie Furlong led the Greyhounds with nine kills, while MaKenna Barnhart scooped up 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded points in the opening frame before the Bulldogs began pulling away. Kills by Elizabeth Eads and Emma Jones late in the set appeared to start a UIndy rally, however, Truman finished it off to win , 25-21.

The Greyhounds were in control most of the second set, thanks to a five-kill performance by Furlong. Despite Jacquay adding a pair of putaways later in the frame, the Bulldogs found another gear on the attack to take a 20-18 lead. The Greyhounds would manage another late fight, but Truman held its ground.

The third set was all Bulldogs, upping their hitting percentage to .270. Truman attacked at a .333 clip to sweep the Greyhounds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Seven of Barnhart's 11 digs came in the first set
-Both Eads and Furlong led the team with two blocks apiece, as each recorded a solo and an assist
-Three Greyhounds tallied service aces, with Gillian Santana joining Eads and Jacquay in the column

MORE NOTES
Three Bulldogs recorded at least nine kills on Friday, with Ellie Kaat scoring a match-high 15 … UIndy's Barnhart has scooped up double-figure digs in two of the past three matches … it is just Furlong's second match this season in which the junior has not had double-digit kills … the sweep marks the Greyhounds' first true road loss of 2019.

UP NEXT
UIndy will look to rally tomorrow afternoon against Quincy University. The Greyhounds swept the Hawks in last season's battle in Quincy, Ill.
