Barnhart Scoops Up 35 Digs in Loss at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The UIndy volleyball team (10-4, 2-2 GLVC) fell to the host Quincy Hawks (6-11, 1-3 GLVC) in four sets on Saturday afternoon, handing the Greyhounds their second consecutive loss.

Libero MaKenna Barnhart was one of the few bright spots on Saturday, scooping up 35 digs in the four-set loss. Taylor Jacquay (10 kills and 14 digs) and Alyssa Spears (47 assists and 12 digs) finished the match with double-doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quincy came out firing in the opening set, attacking at a .371 clip, as five different Hawks tallied a kill. The Greyhounds hit just .143 in the frame, with Katie Furlong joining Jacquay for three putaways apiece.

The UIndy defense picked up in the second, holding the Hawks to .231 hitting as a unit. Barnhart picked up 12 digs in the set alone, but the Greyhounds failed to manufacture consecutive points before the Hawks took a 2-0 lead.

UIndy claimed the third set after taking a commanding 16-6 advantage. Furlong paced the Greyhounds with kills in the game as Spears upped her assist total to 38. However, the Hawks would run away with the fourth frame after limiting the UIndy attack to .026 hitting percentage.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Barnhart's 35 digs came just six scoops from matching the UIndy program record of 41, set by Olivia Martin in 2017
-Furlong found herself back in the double-digit kill column, finishing with 15 against Quincy
-Spears dished out 47 assists on Saturday, the senior's most helpers since UIndy's five-set win at Tiffin
-Gillian Santana recorded 18 digs against the Hawks, matching her season-high total when she scooped up as many against Gannon on September 13
