INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off a disappointing loss Friday night to Lindenwood, the UIndy men's soccer team answered back in a big way Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds hosted Missouri-St. Louis at Key Stadium, shutting out the Tritons by a score of 5-0.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds got things started early in the first half and wasted no time blowing the game open. UIndy got on the board in the 9th minute when junior
Vincent Stone headed in a pass from fellow junior
Jakub Olczyk. Right after the game kicked off after the goal the Greyhounds took the ball immediately into Triton territory when
Julian Zylfiu netted his first goal of the year less than 30 seconds later to make it a 2-0 UIndy lead. The Greyhounds would score one more time in the first half when
Alejandro Steinwascher scored his second goal of the year to make it 3-0 in favor of UIndy.
Â
The Greyhounds did not play conservative with the 3-0 lead.
Alejandro Steinwascher paid back the favor to his brother, Javier, in the 64th minute when he found the senior for the Hounds' fourth goal of the game. UIndy coach John Higgins brought in some reserves down the stretch to give the starters some rest after logging serious minutes over the last two games. Sophomore
Ewan Lynch came on in relief and got in on the offensive explosion from the Hounds, sending a shot into the back of the net in the 70th minute as the Hounds held on from there to defeat UMSL 5-0.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy and UMSL landed the same amount of shots on target (six), but junior
Dimitrios Karousos saved them all on way to his third shutout of the year, second in GLVC play.
-After returning from injury Friday night, senior
Javier Steinwascher tallied four total points on the day, chipping in assists to his brother, Alejandro, and
Ewan Lynch while scoring his third goal on the year.
-Sharing is caring for the Hounds. UIndy is undefeated this season when assisting every goal they score in a game.
