Benoit Grabs 20 Boards in Greyhound Win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team played their first game at Nicoson Hall for the 2019-20 season Friday night. The Hounds picked up two wins last week in Michigan, holding off Davenport for a 89-86 win in Nicoson Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy started off slow in the first period, shooting only 33% from the field. The Hounds were able to pick things up in the second half, shooting over 57% including draining a pair of three's to pull themselves back into the game. Emma Benoit and UIndy owned the boards in the second period as well, UIndy grabbed 16 rebounds to Davenport's three, as Benoit finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the first half. A late surge from UIndy capped off by a McKenzy Telfair steal and layup to beat the buzzer sent the Greyhounds into the locker room leading 41-38

The Greyhounds kept up the energy in the second half that they finished with in the first. UIndy kept feeding Benoit and Dasia Evans down low as the Hounds shot nearly 53% in the third period. The 18-2 run to open up the second half gave the Hounds some cushion down the stretch as the Panthers were able to chip away at the UIndy lead. Davenport outscored the Hounds in the fourth quarter as part of their comeback late. The Panthers also hit a three with just under a second left but did not alter the game as the Hounds held on to win 89-86.
