Hounds Come Back to Earn First NCAA Win

GENEVEA, Ohio – The UIndy men's soccer team (13-5-1) made history Thursday afternoon, earning the program's first-ever NCAA DII Tournament win by downing eighth-seeded Fort Hays State, 3-2. The Greyhounds erased a two-goal deficit to advance to the second round of Super Region Three play, with top-seeded Lake Erie waiting for them Saturday at 3 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-nil after two early goals from two-time reigning Central Region Player of the Year Santiago Aqudelo, the Hounds answered in kind with a pair of quick tallies.

Bryan Moreira got UIndy on the board in the 22nd minute with his header off a Javier Steinwascher cross. Just two minutes later, All-GLVC first teamer Ben Rohder delivered the equalizer from 30 yards out, this time with Alejandro Steinwascher providing the assist.

The game winner came midway through the second half when a deep throw-in by Jakub Olczyk first found Kendall Allen's heel then Javi Steinwacher's head to put the Hounds up for good.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- UIndy controlled the action for much of the afternoon, out-shooting the Tigers 18-8 and earning a 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- Senior Miles Palmer got the win in goal with two saves on the day.
- Moreira and Javi Steinwascher each had two shots on goal to led the team.

MORE NOTES
The three-team opening weekend is being hosted by Lake Erie College at SPIRE Institute in Genevea, Ohio. The host Storm earned the top seed in the region and thus a first-round bye after compiling an 18-2-0 record … The Hounds have qualified for the NCAA regional each of last four odd-numbered years (2013, '15, '17, '19); their best result prior to today was a 0-0 tie in the 2013 first round versus Lewis, but the Flyers advanced on PKs, 4-3.
