Where Are They Now? - Scott Kiesel

Scott Kiesel played varsity basketball from 1983 to 1986. His greatest accomplishment was juggling being married, being a father, playing basketball, and graduating Magna Cum Laude.

"We used to play a home and away series with Butler, our crosstown and biggest rival at that time," Kiesel said. "It was very special to be able to play at Hinkle Fieldhouse, which has such a rich history and tradition. We beat Butler at Nicoson Hall my junior year by one point on a last second shot by Jeff Crabtree."

It has been great to see UIndy Athletics become increasingly more competitive and their facilities continuously improve, according to Kiesel.

The greatest lessons Kiesel learned while a student-athlete were discipline, hard work, and patience. "Balancing being an athlete and the demands of a student are definitely valuable, both in my personal life and professional life."

After graduation, Kiesel has had a long career with Ronald Blue Trust. He has worked there for 28 years serving in the Professional Athlete and Private Wealth Division. "I have had the unique opportunity to work with NFL players as an NFL Players Association registered player financial adviser," he said. "It's been a joy to help business owners, physicians, families, and athletes develop and implement financial plans according to biblical principles."

Personally, Kiesel has been married for thirty-six years and has two children and three grandchildren. He has enjoyed going on mission trips, traveling the world, and serving his community. He also serves on the board of directors for Wheeler Mission.

"My advice [to current student-athletes] would be to pour into both the athletic and academic opportunities available, as well as to get involved in activities outside athletics," Kiesel said. "Network in the community, serve others, and learn to be entrepreneurial."
