ON TAP
The UIndy women's basketball team is back in action with a pair of games within the span of a couple days. The Hounds are winding down their non-conference schedule with another road game, this time against Northwood. UIndy will return home for an early week matchup to open up GLVC play against Bellarmine.
HOUNDS vs. TIMBERWOLVES
UIndy and Northwood are no strangers to each other since the beginning of the decade. Having played six times already this decade, the two teams did not play last season. Northwood owns the all-time series against the Hounds, winning four games to UIndy's two. The Greyhounds beat the Timberwolves in their last meeting, coming in Nicoson Hall.
ABOUT NORTHWOOD
The Timberwolves are off to a 1-5 start this season after going 13-16 just a season ago. Like the Greyhounds, Northwood has loaded their non-conference schedule with in-region games. Their lone win came against Ursuline just a week ago in the confines of their own gym. Northwood has already played one GLVC opponent so far this season, losing to Lewis just the second week of the season.
Northwood was picked to finish third in the south division of the GLIAC prior to the 2019-20 season starting earlier this month. The Timberwolves did not have any players selected to the preseason south division all-GLIAC team despite returning two of their top three scorers from a season ago. Junior Ellie Taylor led the Northwood in scoring last year but has been held in check so far this year, averaging just over eight points per night so far. A trio of freshman guards have been leading the charge so far as Maizie Taylor, Alli Keyser, and Makenzie Todd all average double-figure points for the Timberwolves this season.
HOUNDS vs. KNIGHTS
Welcome back to GLVC play, UIndy, you get to face longtime rival Bellarmine for the final time in Nicoson Hall before the Knights defect for Division I to open your conference schedule! UIndy is looking to get back in the win column against the Knights this season after getting swept last season.
Kristin Wodrich and the Greyhounds have only beaten Bellarmine once since Wodrich became the coach of the back in 2016.
ABOUT BELLARMINE
The Knights will come to Nicoson Hall on just a few days rest after playing back-to-back days in Knights Hall just after Thanksgiving. Bellarmine hosts Trevecca Nazarence as well as Tampa in the Bellarmine Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday to close out the month of November. The Knights will play those games after getting nearly two weeks off from their last game, looking to improve their 1-2 record so far this season.
After going 17-12 with a 9-9 record in GLVC play just a season ago, Bellarmine was picked to finish 3rd in the conference this year by GLVC coaches. Junior guard Breia Torrens has been leading the Knights in scoring this year, scoring 20 or more in each of her team's first two games. Senior center Ally Mayhaus has also been a force for Bellarmine so far this season as well, averaging 10 points as well as over seven rebounds a night this season.
LAST TIME OUT
UIndy rebounded from their first loss of the season to Cedarville with a bounce-back win over Lake Erie in Ohio on Sunday afternoon. UIndy had two players score 20+ in the win over the Storm as
Laura Thomas and
Paige Barrett went off for 21 points each in the 80-73 victory. It was the first time since the team's win over Truman last year that the Hounds had two players each score 20+ points in the same game.
