EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After an impressive performance at the GLVC Cross Country Championships late last month, the Greyhounds will make their way to Evansville, Ind. on Saturday for the NCAA Midwest Regional races beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Both teams came out to finish third overall in the GLVC Championships, the men having their best team effort since 2000. Junior
Lauren Bailey finished as the women's 6K runner-up and looks to make another splash at regionals. Bailey finished 17th overall last season, and is looking to place even higher in the all-region ranking list this weekend.
Melissa Spencer and
Madison Vauters will return to the NCAA Midwest Regional, looking to make inside the top 50 of the race.
The men made their own statement, as well, as
Chris Switzer led the charge on a third-place finish at the GLVC Championships. After just missing all-region consideration last season in a 26th-place finish, the sophomore will look to dominate near the start. UIndy also included three other Greyhounds within the top 25 of the GLVC Championships, including
Nyc Sigmon,
Will Reid and
Jacob Woodrow.
The last Greyhound cross country runner to move past the NCAA Midwest Regional onto the NCAA DII National Championships was back in 2015 when
Alex Cushman advanced to the grand stage.
