Greyhounds Open Season with Win over Alderson Broaddus

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The UIndy women's basketball team opened their 2019-20 season Friday night in the conference crossover hosted by Lake Superior State. The Hounds took a double-digit lead into halftime, before holding off Alderson Broaddus, 66-49, to start their season 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds put up 21 points in the opening period of their season, as the Greyhounds front court looks to be a force this season. Dasia Evans and Emma Benoit got off to a hot start for UIndy, while sophomore Liz Alsot also came off the bench to score six quick points for the Hounds.

Alderson Broaddus held UIndy to six points in the second quarter after only scoring six points of their own in the first period. The Battlers erupted for 19 points coming out of the locker room at half while UIndy bounced back for 17 points in the third quarter to go into the final period holding a nine-point lead.

UIndy was able to build off the momentum they took into the fourth. Every Greyhound starter put up at least six points in the win over Alderson Broaddus. Junior Dasia Evans came alive in the second half to finish with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while also pulling down seven rebounds with Emma Benoit and Liz Alsot. The other Greyhound to finish in double figures in scoring was Laura Thomas, as the senior finished with 10 points on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting from the field.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy held AB to under 30% shooting on the night as the Greyhounds shot just under the 50% mark to open the season.
-The Hounds only attempted four three-pointers in the win over the Battlers. The four attempts are the fewest in a game since the 2017 season opener against Northern Michigan.
-The rebounding battle was one that UIndy won easily Friday night as the Hounds as a team grabbed 40 boards to Alderson Broaddus' 22.
