SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – After taking care of Alderson Broaddus last night, the UIndy women's basketball team faced another G-MAC opponent to close out the conference crossover hosted by Lake Superior State this weekend. The Hounds shut down the Pioneers offense Saturday afternoon with the wire-to-wire win of 75-47.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emma Benoit scored the first four points for UIndy before
Laura Thomas took over. The senior from New Castle scored five quick points to force a Malone timeout just two minutes into the game. The senior duo kept scoring for UIndy as well as
Paige Barrett and
Mickey Sasson as the Hounds went on to lead 30-5 after the first period.
Â
Â
Marissa Knobloch came in to score her first collegiate points in the second quarter by hitting a triple in the beginning of the quarter. UIndy held Malone to a mere 8% shooting from the field in the first half, leading the Pioneers by as much as 31 in the first half, taking the 31 point cushion into the locker room at halftime.
Â
UIndy kept the pressure on the Pioneers in the second half much like they did in the first. UIndy's lead was never threatened by the Malone offense as it never dipped under 20 at any point in the second half. The Hounds at one point pushed their lead to 34 points after
Dasia Evans rebounded her own miss and put it back in for the easy two. The total team effort down low and from
Laura Thomas in the backcourt gave the Hounds the convincing 75-47 win to push their record to 2-0 on the season.
Â
