Hounds Close Calendar Year with Win Over Purdue Northwest

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team closed out the calendar year Tuesday night with convincing win over visiting Purdue Northwest. The Hounds clamped down on the Pride in the first half and held them to just 38 percent shooting from the field in the 74-57 win in Nicoson Hall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After going up 2-0 after a pair of free throws early, Purdue Northwest saw the Greyhounds go on an 8-0 run in a before calling their first timeout in just over three minutes of game time. UIndy would go up 12-2 but a strong finish to the quarter by the Pride shrunk the UIndy lead down to four after 10 minutes of play. The second quarter the Greyhound offense exploded for 25 points in the frame. Laura Thomas lit it up beyond the arc, making five triples in the quarter as the Hounds led at the break, 41-29.
 
The Hounds played keep-away on offense in the second half, still putting up 19 points in the third quarter while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. The Greyhounds would go on to lead by as many as 21 points in the final period as the reserves got to see some extended playing time down the stretch. Purdue Northwest got a couple buckets late but UIndy would eventually win its final non-conference game by a descisive 17 points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Thomas had one of her best games shooting since joining the Hounds last season. She hit a career-best five threes against, all of them coming in the second quarter.
- Dasia Evans logged her first double-double in a Greyhound uniform. The Wright State transfer went 4-for-7 from the field and grabbed 10 boards in over 30 minutes of play.
- Freshman Marissa Knobloch matched a season best with two treys, only needing three attempts to sink her pair of triples.
- The Hounds have been better from the charity stripe in the last few weeks. Shooting for a season-best 83 percent from the line tonight, the Hounds have only missed two free throws in each of the last two games.

UP NEXT
The Hounds have a few weeks off over winter break before coming back home to Nicoson Hall to host conference-rival Lewis University Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
