INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team was back in action Thursday night after having a few weeks off for the holidays. The Hounds put their five-game winning streak on the line against the Lewis Flyers who have won the last five meetings against the Greyhounds and made it six-straight, coming back to beat UIndy 73-70.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half belonged to UIndy, shooting over 50% from the field and having their best game of the year from behind the arc, making five of seven attempts in the opening half.
Paige Barrett and
McKenzy Telfair pushed the Hounds to the 43-34 lead at the half. Barrett led the way with 16 points and six boards while Telfair backed her up with 11 points and five rebounds of her own.
Â
Going up by double-digits in the third quarter, UIndy forced a Lewis timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Flyers regrouped quickly, chipping away at Greyhound lead. The Flyers cut the UIndy lead to single-digits heading into the final period where Lewis just kept finding spots in the Greyhound defense to tie the game with just under five minutes to go. Lewis' biggest lead came late in the game, leading by four. The Hounds tied the game with two minutes to go off a pair of
Laura Thomas free throws. Neither team was able to score on the other until Lewis hit three free throws with three seconds left to complete the comeback win.
