Bellarmine completes season sweep of Hounds

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After picking up a win last week on Senior Day, the UIndy women's basketball team hit the road for their first of four straight road games to close out the regular season. The first of their four-game road stretch was in Louisville to face the Bellarmine Knights for the second time this season with the Knights picking up a win to put their GLVC record above .500, by a score of 82-60.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was tightly contested in the opening stanza, as Taylor Drury and Laura Thomas combined for the first nine Greyhound points before Emma Benoit nailed her second triple of the season to put the Hounds up by one. The Knights took back the lead to close the quarter and head into the next 10 minutes up 14-12. The second quarter did not go as well for the Hounds as the first quarter did. The Knights were able to build on their late first quarter momentum, erupting for 25 points in the frame while holding UIndy to just 10 points to take a 17 point lead into the break.

Bellarmine scored the first 11 points of the second half before forcing a Greyhound timeout. UIndy came back to outscore 21 points in the quarter, but gave up 29 points to the Knights in the third quarter as they took a 25-point lead into the final quarter after nailing a three in the final seconds to inflate their lead. UIndy went to work in the paint in the final period as eight of their first 10 points came in the interior with Emma Benoit and Laura Thomas each getting a pair of layups for the Hounds. The subs came in for the Knights while multiple reserves for the Greyhounds got a chunk of minutes down the stretch before the Knights sealed the 22-point win over the visiting Hounds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Laura Thomas led the Greyhounds on the glass with five boards, it is the first time this season that Thomas had led the team in rebounding in a game.
-Taylor Dillard was one of the UIndy reserves to see extended minutes tonight. Dillard set a career-high with 28 minutes play for the Greyhounds, Dillard finished one free throw short of matching her career-high of six freebies made that she set last month against William Jewell.
-The Hounds shot over 45% from the field once again tonight. It is the fourth-straight game that the team has been able to combine for at least 45% from the field and their sixth time in the last eight game they have reached that clip.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will travel west to Evansville, Ind., to face Southern Indiana as the Screaming Eagles host their Senior Day festivities as well.
