WESTFIELD, Ind. – The 19th-ranked UIndy softball team (11-3) extended its win streak to 10 with a doubleheader sweep of in-region Urbana (0-4) Wednesday afternoon at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. The Greyhounds needed less than seven innings in both contests, run-ruling the Blue Knights by scores of 8-0 and 9-1 in five and six innings, respectively.

UIndy 8, Urbana 0 (5 inn.)
Starting pitcher
Halie Waters (6-1) tossed a gem in the opener. The 5-9 sophomore spun a one-hit shutout, striking out seven – including twice striking out the side – on the way to her sixth win of the year.

After pushing across three runs without a single hit in the third inning to take the lead, the Hounds exploded for a five-spot in the fifth.
Cathy Skaggs and
Rachel Vander Wagen stoked the rally with back-to-back triples, while
Hanna Burris followed with a two-run double. The latter finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored a two ribbies.

UIndy 9, Urbana (6 inn.)
Shortstop
Brooke Montgomery recorded not one but two inside-the-park home runs in game two. With two on in the second inning, the speedy sophomore launched one over the center fielder's head for notch three RBIs, then hustled home with another round tripper to drive in two more in the fourth.

Burris had another three-hit game, including a pair of bloop doubles, while adding a run and a stolen base.
Shannon Schuetz and
Haylie Foster each had a double as well.

Junior hurler
Lauren Honkomp (4-2) got the starting nod, going fourth innings while allowing just three hits and one walk and fanning five. Freshman
Amy Kaniewski finished the game, retiring all six batters she faced.

UP NEXT
With Spring Break coming up, the Greyhounds will make their second trip to Florida this season. The Hounds will once again head down to the massive PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. Eight games appear on the slate, starting with Georgian Court on Saturday, March 9.
