Saints Top Greyhounds, Walk Off With Series Win

ST. LOUIS – In the rubber game of its GLVC-opening series, the UIndy baseball team (7-6) suffered a tough loss Monday, falling 5-4 in walk-off fashion to conference rival Maryville. Senior Kyle Orloff's RBI single in the top of the eighth broke a 3-3 tie, but the Saints (4-10) managed a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to snatch the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds took an early lead with an opposite-field home run by Tyler Phillips in the top of the first, but the Saints answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first and another run in the second to carve out a lead.

UIndy clawed back to tie it at three and eventually pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Macy Holdsworth started the frame with a leadoff walk before advancing to second on Phillips' sacrifice. That set the stage for Orloff, who found the outfield grass to give the Hounds a 4-3 edge.

Later, with the bases loaded and two down in the bottom of the ninth, the Hounds pushed Maryville to its final strike, but MU shortstop Dominic Connolly battled back from a 0-2 hole before finding the right-center gap to secure the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eight different Hounds recorded a hit, with Devon Hensley's pair of singles good for the only two-hit day.
- Meanwhile, UIndy used seven different pitchers in the nine-inning game, including reliever Derek Lasky, who took the loss to move to 1-3 on the season.
- Senior pitcher Matt Rearick had a remarkable outing for the Hounds. The Carmel, Ind., native protected a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, escaping a two-on, no-out situation with three straight strikeouts.
- Phillips now leads the team with three home runs on the year.

UP NEXT
UIndy gets back at it on Wednesday, March 13 with a single game at in-region Oakland City starting at 2 p.m. ET. The game is a holdover from a series started a week and a half ago, but weather pushed back the final showdown. UIndy and OCU split the first two games of the series back on March 2.
