Hounds hold on for 7-5 win over McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – The UIndy baseball team was back in action today against McKendree in their series finale. The Hounds picked up the series win over the Bearcats with the 7-5 win Sunday afternoon to give them their 10th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds started the game off by scoring three runs in the top of the first to take the early 3-0 lead. The Hounds would hold onto that lead until the bottom of the third inning when the Bearcats doubled to left center field to knot things up at three before taking a one run lead the next inning. UIndy responded with a big seventh inning, scoring four runs in the inning to take the lead back. Ryan Simons brought in a run on a fielder's choice before John Carpinelli's sacrifice bunt the next batter brought in the second run of the inning. Macy Holdsworth tied the game with a double in the center field gap before coming around later to score on a Hunter Waning single to left to take a 7-4 lead late into the game. McKendree tried to make a push in the ninth inning, scoring a run but coming up short in the 7-5 UIndy win.

Jake Sprinkle got the start for the Greyhounds, pitching three and a third innings for the Hounds, fanning five of the 19 batters he faced while surrendering three runs. UIndy got just over an inning out of freshman Johnny Irish who only surrendered one run before fellow freshman Nick Foy took over to face five batters. David Corbin came in the game in the seventh inning and went the distance for UIndy, striking out six batters to hold on to the Greyhounds victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-David Corbin led the Hounds in strikeouts, his six K's are the second most strikeouts in a GLVC game a UIndy pitcher has had this season behind Corey Bates' seven K's against Maryville.
-UIndy's offense was very efficient, scoring seven runs on seven hits against the Bearcats.

UP NEXT
