Three UIndy dingers give Hounds win over UMSL in 7 innings

WESTFIELD, Ind. – After Mother Nature threw a curveball Saturday night with some late-March flurries, the UIndy baseball team's series against the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons had their Sunday doubleheader change to a single game at Grand Park in Westfield Sunday afternoon. The Hounds took game one over the Tritons, 12-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The UIndy offense got going early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead and came back the next inning to push their lead to five after a Tyler Phillips homerun to left give the Hounds the 5-0 lead. The next inning saw Macy Holdsworth knock his fourth home run of the year on a three-run shot to left and the fourth inning had Trey Smith go yard to push the Greyhound lead to 11-0 at the end of four. The Hounds would plate one more run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to right to extend the lead to 12-1/

Reigning GLVC pitcher of the week Reid Werner took the bump for the Hounds, delivering another quality start in GLVC play. Werner went six innings against the Tritons only surrendering one run on five hits. For the final inning, freshman Zach Saffell came on for the Greyhounds. The freshman from Somerset, Ohio, made easy work of his time on the mound as the Hounds sealed the 12-1 win over UMSL.

UP NEXT
