INDIANAPOLIS – As announced here on UIndyAthletics.com last week, Greyhound student-athletes
Lauren Bailey,
Austin Hogan,
Katie Monk and
Hilary Paxson will be competing at the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The national meet will be held Friday and Saturday, March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan.
The quartet combined to qualify in six events, with Paxson making the cut in the weight throw, Bailey in the 5000-meter run and both Hogan and Monk each qualifying in both throwing disciplines. Paxson and Bailey are each making their first trip to Nationals, while Hogan and Monk are now both five-time Indoor Championships qualifiers. See below for the Hounds' concise schedule, and click the links above for further coverage.
The Greyhounds sport Division II's top two student-athletes in the women's weight throw. Monk comes in at No. 1 with a school-record mark of 20.56 meters, while Paxon's GLVC gold-medal-winning throw of 20.34 meters moved her up to the second spot. Monk also holds the program record in the shot put, with her PR of 15.72 meters good for fifth in DII.
Fresh off garnering his third consecutive as the GLVC Field Athlete of the Year, Hogan will also be competing in both throwing events. He ranks sixth in DII in the weight throw (20.27m) and 10th in the shot (18.00m).
Lastly, Bailey will be making her first-ever appearance at Nationals. The sophomore distance standout just made the cut in the 5000-meter run with a school-record time of 16:55.44.
