INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team returned to action at Greyhound Park Friday evening, beginning their weekend series with William Jewell. The Hounds topped Jewell despite a late run from the Cardinals in the late innings, winning Friday night's game 7-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jewell started off the game with a leadoff homerun before UIndy came back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of Jewell errors. UIndy took advantage of two more Cardinals errors in the bottom of the second with four runs to extend their lead to 6-1 early on. William Jewell slowly chipped away at the UIndy lead, scoring runs in four separate innings to end up cutting the Greyhound lead to just one. Jewell had the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth but came up empty before falling in the ninth, 7-6.

Corey Bates took the mound for the Greyhounds against Jewell Friday night, going six innings giving up five runs. Bates only walked three batters but struck out six batters of his 28 Cardinals faced. Freshman
Johnny Irish came on in relief for Bates, throwing two and one-thirds inning only giving up four hits of his 12 batters faced.
Matt Rearick came on for the Greyhounds with one out in the bottom of the ninth to secure the save on just three pitches.

The Hounds and Cardinals wrap up their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm at Greyhound Park.
