Late run falls short as Hounds split with Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After earning a sweep over Missouri-St. Louis this weekend in Westfield, the UIndy baseball team hit the road for a mid-week doubleheader with the Bellarmine Knights. The Hounds increased their winning streak to four games after taking game one, but fell to the Knights in game two with the series finale coming next week at Greyhound Park.

INDIANAPOLIS 6, BELLARMINE 5
A four-run second inning was the big inning the Greyhounds needed in game one. The Knights took an early 1-0 lead before the Hounds took the lead off Devon Hensley single and a Kyle Orloff double gave UIndy the 4-1 advantage. Joe Kenney came back with a single of his own in the third inning to extend the Greyhound lead to 5-1. Bellarmine chipped away at the UIndy lead down the stretch before tying the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning. Junior Will Smithey scored on a Bellarmine wild pitch in the eighth inning to give the Hounds the 6-5 win in game one.

BELLARMINE 7, INDINAPOLIS 5
A pair of three-run innings for Bellarmine was enough fend off the Hounds in game two. Devon Hensley doubled in the seventh inning and John Carpinelli homered in the eighth to shrink the Knights lead to 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Bellarmine tacked on another run in the eighth before entering the ninth inning. UIndy stormed back in the top of the ninth beginning with a Blake Richardson dinger to deep left before Kyle Orloff brought in Macy Holdsworth and Kian Bukala on a bases clearing double. The Hounds had a chance with the bases loaded and two out but were unable to bring in any runs before falling 7-5.
