INDIANAPOLIS – Head coach Al Ready and the UIndy baseball team (19-12, 12-8 GLVC) picked up an all-important Saturday sweep to clinch the series win over Southern Indiana (20-12, 13-7 GLVC) at Greyhound Park.
Â
Devon Hensley and
Kyle Orloff combined to hit nine-for-16 against Screaming Eagles pitching, smacking a total of three homers in the first game.
Jake Sprinkle tossed a quality start in the nightcap, as the Hounds exploded for six first-inning runs to run away from Southern Indiana.

UIndy 8, Southern Indiana 7
The Screaming Eagles' bats remained on fire from Friday's contest, with the visitors plating three runs in the first pair of innings. A run-scoring single in the third from
Isaac Bair put the Greyhounds on the board, but Southern Indiana appeared to be in control through four-and-a-half frames.
Â
That was when the Hounds scored three in their half of the fifth, as Orloff launched the first of three Greyhound homers to reach National Avenue pass the left-field fence. Hensley smacked his first just an inning later, giving UIndy a 5-4 advantage.
Â
Insurance runs were at a premium in the opener on Saturday, as two more Hounds – including another bomb from Hensley – crossed the plate in the eighth. The Greyhound bullpen allowed Southern Indiana to knot the game once again in the ninth, paving the way for magic to happen in the bottom half.
Â
After
Hunter Waning walked to open the frame, the junior would eventually advance to third on a wild pitch and balk. The Screaming Eagles opted to intentionally load the bases for Hensley, who promptly smacked a seeing-eye single to center to walk it off for his third hit of the contest.
Â
UIndy 7, Southern Indiana 3
The Greyhounds kept the lineup rolling in the rubber match, with Orloff and Hensley leading the charge once again.
Jake Perreira found green in left-center field to cap the six-run frame and give the hurler Sprinkle a cushion to work with.
Â
The six runs UIndy generated in the first would be more than enough, as Sprinkle limited Southern Indiana to a pair of earned runs over six innings of work. Orloff plated Perreira in the eighth to increase the Greyhound lead to 7-1, as
Christian Beard closed out the final two frames, punching out three.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Not to get lost in the sweep is southpaw
Corey Bates' quality outing in the opener on Saturday. The junior transfer tossed six innings, allowing just three earned runs and punching out six.
Â
Macy Holdsworth increased his team lead on his slash line with a three-for-eight effort on Saturday. The senior now sports a triple slash line of .359/.432/.603 in nearly 150 plate appearances.
Â
Bullpen arm
Johnny Irish threw two innings on Saturday, striking out a pair, while allowing one baserunner.
