Women's Soccer welcomes eight as part of 2019 recruiting class

INDIANAPOLIS- Fifth-year head coach Holly Cox announced the recruits that will be joining the UIndy women's soccer team for the 2019 season. Coach Cox and staff had to replace eight graduating seniors from last year's class. Eight newcomers will be joining the Greyhounds this season, looking to continue to build off last year's 9-7-2 record.

Coach Cox on her newcomers, "I am super excited to begin our 2019 fall season with the addition of our incoming class. We have a very versatile group of young ladies that will be joining our returners this season and their versatility excites me as it brings so many options within various shapes and formations. Our incoming class will definitely battle to make an immediate impact this fall. Let's go Greyhounds!"

Cox's thoughts on each player:

Saucermann 00 Sophia Saucerman
"I like to think I have a good grasp on what is needed to be a successful goalkeeper, having played the position myself. Sophia has a quality that me and my staff cannot coach and that is bravery. Her willingness to completely buy in and give her all makes her a player that will thrive in this environment. I am very excited to see Sophia work with [assistant coach] Stacey McCaslin this season."

Hardie 2 Alexi Hardie
"Alexi is another young lady that I have had the pleasure of watching develop over the past couple of seasons. A natural defender that recently has shown growth in her attacking abilities. Her versatility on the soccer field will open up so much opportunity to be impactful. She is a competitor that is going to push her teammates.

dehammel 4 Claire DeHamel
"Claire definitely has an eye for the game. She reads the game very well and makes soccer look simple and to me these are always great attributes for a midfielder. She is constantly in the thick of things and I see Claire bringing a maturity to our play, someone who will make smart decisions in tough situations."

herrero 9 Maria Herrero
"Another young lady that will be joining us from Spain. Maria brings a toughness to our play with her no-nonsense attitude. She is a natural midfielder that has great vision and foot skills in tight spaces and is not afraid to do the dirty work too."

Haberkorn 11 Makaiah Haberkorn
"I have been able to keep an eye on Kaiah's development over the past couple of seasons being from nearby Plainfield, and what I have seen from her excites me. Kaiah is one of our most versatile incoming players, having played roles along the backline and in the midfield. It is hard to say a single strength of Kaiah's play as she has so many dimensions to her game, both defensively and in the attack."

Small 12 Olivia Small
"Olivia really stood out to me at our ID Camp. She is an attacking minded player that has the ability to score goals and hold up play. She has a physical presence on the field and can dominate in the air. I look forward to watching Olivia score some goals."

Kessler 14 Elisabeth Kessler
"Elisabeth is one of the most athletic players I have seen. She is a brilliant defender, but her ability to cover so much ground makes her so formidable in the attack. With the combination of Elisabeth's attitude and work rate, I feel as that she could be hugely impactful this season."

Espinosa 18 Elena Espinosa
"Elena is a very dynamic attacking player. Having grown up watching the game, she brings creativity to the field in the attack. She does not just have a nose for the goal, but, is also able to assist other in creating goal scoring opportunities. With the addition of some returners, I think we will have a very dynamic attacking force."
