INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off a week's worth of rest, the No. 13 ranked UIndy men's soccer team opened up conference play Sunday afternoon at Key Stadium against preseason GLVC-favorite Bellarmine. UIndy scored early, Bellarmine scored late, but neither team scored in either overtime period as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy got on the board early in the game, needing less than 10 minutes before
Alejandro Steinwascher notched the first goal of his sophomore campaign. Junior
Vincent Stone set up last year's GLVC Freshman of the Year near the goal to give the Hounds the 1-nil lead early.
Â
Hounds keeper
Dimitrios Karousos had faced more shots on target than the Bellarmine keeper throughout the afternoon. Karousos faced his first PK of the season in the 80th minute where Bellarmine got it past him to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams threatened down the stretch but came up empty as 110 minutes was not enough to decide a winner.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-In two career games against Bellarmine,
Alejandro Steinwascher has tallied a goal against the Knights in each game.
-UIndy has held back-to-back opponents to 13 or less shots in a game, last two game stretch that happened was last year after holding Quincy and Maryville to nine and eight shots respectively.

HOUND BYTES
"It was a really good result against a really good team," said Coach John Higgins. "We showed again our good side, I thought we deserved our lead and then we got away from our game just a little bit in the second half. Bellarmine is always dangerous on set plays, we gave them a set play to get back into it. Without the one set play I thought we would have been able to grind it out today. Overall, it was another good performance from our young group. We are getting better, growing into it, and understanding the college game. We are doing all that right now without taking losses and I'm really happy about that."
