EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The UIndy men's soccer team hit the road Friday night for the first time this season, making the trip south to face the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles. The Hounds have won the last four meetings against USI and made it five-straight tonight beating USI, 2-1.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds started the game off controlling possession in the midfield against the Screaming Eagles. The Hounds were able to break through with just under 15 minutes to go in the first half when
Seth Ward tallied the game's first goal. The freshman from New Zealand took a pass from fellow freshman
Bryan Moreira to give UIndy the 1-0 advantage. The Screaming Eagles were able to match the Greyhound goal with just under five minutes to go in the half tied at one each.
Â
Like the first half, the Greyhounds controlled possession early on in the second half. The Hounds broke the 1-1 tie in the 61st minute when Moreira took a pass from
Alejandro Steinwascher in the box to beat the USI keeper to give UIndy the 2-1 lead. UIndy was able to keep USI away from threatening throughout the second half on their way to winning Friday night's game 2-1.

HOUND BYTES
"I love that we were able to grind this one out," said UIndy coach John Higgins. "I think the biggest question I have had about this team is if we were able to win games when we don't play our best and we did that tonight. Credit to Southern Indiana, they made it really tough for us, we were not at our best tonight and they pressured us. We were able to come away with the win though and I'm delighted about that. We are better than we showed tonight and we know that. We are at our best when we are passing the ball and when we don't we tend to struggle offensively. Overall, I love that we were able to work as a team and grind this one out."
