Bearcats Take Down Greyhounds in Overtime

LEBANON, Ill. – In the final leg of their first road trip of the season, the UIndy men's soccer team faced McKendree Sunday afternoon. In a game where offense was at a premium for both teams, the Bearcats were able to pull out a win at home in over time, topping the Hounds 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a sign of things to come for both teams, totaling three shots on goal combined in the opening 45 minutes. UIndy landed a single shot on frame in the opening stanza, coming from Alejandro Steinwascher in the second minute. The first two minutes of the second half featured two shots on goal, with each team threatening early on. Starting in his first game of the season, senior Mase Koki challenged the Bearcat goalie in the first minute of the half while Dimitrios Karousos made a save in the 47th minute.

After coming up empty on two shots on frame in the final ten minutes, UIndy was heading to overtime for the second time in 2019. The overtime period may show it was a quick one, but with tensions high in the extra period, the pressure was on for both teams. Only one shot was fired in overtime and McKendree made it count, finding the back of the net in the 96th minute to hand UIndy their first lost on the 2019 season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Dimitrios Karousos only faced seven shots from the Bearcats today, second-fewest he has all year and the fewest a Greyhound goalkeeper has faced since Miles Palmer only faced one shot from Missouri S&T last season.
-After combining for more shots on goal last time out against USI, the UIndy reserves were unable to put a shot on target with Seth Ward taking the only shot for the UIndy bench today.

UP NEXT
