INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhound volleyball team (10-2, 2-0 GLVC) continued the GLVC season on Saturday against the Missouri S&T Miners (11-3, 1-1 GLVC), recording their second straight sweep.
Katie Furlong continued her hot streak with 15 kills on the night, while also recording three blocks with
Elizabeth Eads and
Kyra Simmons.
UIndy totaled 54 digs overall in the three sets, as
Alyssa Spears (11) and Makenna Barnhart (15) were featured in the double-digits.
Gillian Santana and
Taylor Jacquay finished the match with nine digs each as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacquay kicked off a quick run at the start, as Furlong rattled two straight from Spears to pace a lead throughout the rest of the first set.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Greyhounds powered through after the mark was 20-20. Three straight kills from Eads, Furlong and Spears powered UIndy forward for a lead and finished the set on a second-straight 25-20 set score.
The Greyhounds' offense continued to battle the Miners, recording 13 points on 16 volleys at one point during the third and final set. The set featured two service aces from the Greyhounds, coming from Jacquay and Spears. Furlong would finish out the game with the final four kills of the match. Simmons also recorded three kills alone in the final set as well.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE-
- The Greyhounds' 54 digs as a team is the most recorded in a winning three-set game this season.
- Simons's .692 kill percentage was one of the highest of the year for the freshman, hitting nine of 13 without a single error.
- Barnhart's 15 digs tallies five game this season where she gathers 10 or more.
- Spears recorded her third double-double of the season against the Miners (33 ast, 11 digs). Spears finished the weekend with a 12.7 assists per set against Maryville and Missouri S&T.

UIndy will take the week to prepare for a three-game road trip, starting Friday in Kirksville, Missouri. The Greyhounds will face Truman State on Friday at 8 p.m. before moving back east to Quincy, Illinois.
