NEW ORLEANS, La. – After rewriting two new records across three different meets last weekend, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Division II women's indoor rankings on Tuesday. UIndy's No. 7 rankings moves them up one spot from last week's poll, still remaining as the highest GLVC institution and second-highest in the Midwest Region.
The Greyhounds currently feature student-athletes inside the DII rankings in 10 different events, seven on the track and three in the field. Berenice Cleyet-Merle has continued to dominate this season, leading the country in the women's 800 meter by almost a whole second. Cleyet-Merle also ranks in the top five in the women's mile, her 4:40.49 time sits at fourth overall in the event. Lauren Bailey also ranks 23rd in the women's mile currently. Bailey also owns the runner-up spot within the 3000 meter, three seconds after of the current third-place ranked individual. The final event that Bailey is ranked in is the women's 5000 meter, three seconds away from the top spot within Division II.
Kerigan Ertel remains within DII's top 25 in the 60-meter hurdles, sitting tied at 23rd overall in the event at 8.78 seconds. UIndy currently also has a relay ranked within Division II's top 10, as the team of Bailey, Mary Watts, Yailene Leon and Cleyet-Merle currently sit in the eighth-place spot in the DMR.
Brittney Clark's highest pole vault height ranks inside the top 10 in the nation, edging out the field by one-hundredth of a meter to situate herself 10th overall. Katrinia Hopkins owns two different rankings in the field events, sitting 16th in the shot put and 18th in the weight throw.
The Greyhounds currently are the second-highest ranked team from the Midwest Region in the national poll, as Grand Valley State sits at the top as the No. 1team in the nation. The Midwest is also represented by Tiffin (11th), Southwest Baptist (12th), and Saginaw Valley State (15th).
The UIndy track & field teams will have one final weekend of competition before the championship season, competing in two meets in Ohio. The Greyhounds will head to Ohio State for the Buckeye Tune-up on Friday, Feb. 21, and then the STEEMER Showcase in Springfield, OH on Saturday, Feb. 22.
